COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING REFLEXES

Below we have compiled some questions and considerations regarding reflexes.

Why should you have a reflex?

40% of all traffic accidents in Sweden are involving pedestrians occur in the dark. Reflectors make you more visible and reduce the risk of an accident.

Where and when should you have a reflex?

Reflectors are not only suitable on dark country roads, but also in cities. In city traffic, it is at least as important, if not even more important, to have a reflex, despite street lamps and other light sources. As most pedestrian accidents occur in densely built-up areas with street lighting.

How do reflexes work?

Reflections are visible in the dark or in poor visibility conditions when it is hit by the light from a headlight on a car. The reflex works when the light from the car or other light source reflects reflects the strong light from the headlight or light source.

How far can you see WITHOUT reflexes?

If you are wearing dark clothes and visibility is good (no fog or similar), a car with low beam can see you from about 20-30 meters away, and if you are wearing light-colored clothes, you can be seen from about 60 meters.

How long can you see WITH a reflector?

If you have reflectors when it's dark outside, the car already sees you from about 125 meters away.

Note:

During the winter months with snow and ice, the car's braking distance becomes longer, often 2-4 times longer than on normal road conditions.
